Proceeding up the road towards the cliffs.
There is water running down the road as most of the water bars and ditches to the side have filled
with silt, gravel, sand, rocks and tree roots.
Parked by a water puddle at the top near the cliffs. Cyndy is reading the Lancaster Herald newspaper.
The cliffs. I walked about 100 feet from the vehicles to get this view.
A closer view of the cliffs.
And even closer. It was an eerie place to be. With the temperature rising, large and small
icicles were crashing from the cliff with an almost musical sound.
Some clouds passed by, shading the trees above the cliff in an almost perfect arc.
Icicles on the rock behind where I was standing.
You can see the water running down the ruts instead of being channeled off the road with a water
bar to the ditch on the right.
The digging begins. I start where the ditch used to leave the road.
The water is starting to go where it should. The water moistens the soil in the ditch making
it easier to dig.
You can see at the lower left of the picture I've started a water bar to guide the water from
that wheel track towards the ditch.
The ditch is beginning to re-appear.
It is important to cut and remove roots such as this one that will trap leaves and sticks, starting
the process of clogging the ditch again.

On the 26th of November, 2004 we went on a short, impromptu 4X4 and photography ride to Stratford Bog, a
few miles north of our place. The picture on the right is taken from the dam. Click
here to see a panorama from the Stratford Bog Dam.
Neal and Joan Wells came along with their Jeep. Neal and I are photo buffs and I knew he would want to see some
of the photographic possibilities in the area of Stratford Bog. There's Neal photographing our 4X4s by the dam.
There's where we're going, to photograph the cliffs a few miles north of the pond.
