It was kind of cold and windy.
We were at about the half way point in case we had to relay messages between the start and finish.
Our Unimog Funkwagan Radio Van. I had two 2 meter radios set up, one for the primary frequency, the other the secondary. We didn't have to do much as the reception was good enough for communication from the start point to the finish point of the race.

One of the course officcial cars. They blew two tires. It was a bad day for tires (tyres to you Brits).
Sharp rocks were frozen in the ruts of the logging roads, easily slicing tires.
We tried to save them with air from the Unimog, but the slices were too large to repair.
They got out with the loan of a "doughnut" spare from another official and their spare.

Four stages run on almost the same road may not sound like much of a rally, but believe me, it was!
The punishment to drivers and cars was tremendous due to the road and weather conditions.
The snow was about ankle deep and had become a hard packed sort of ice on the road, which had deep
ruts from trucks before it froze. Judging by the divots to the sides in the snow, dirt, rocks, trees and
boulders, I would say many cars left the road many times. We heard of several on the radio.
John Buffum, of Vermont organized this race. We thank him for his leadership and efforts without
which this event would not have happened.
